Attention all landscaping companies. If you apply fertilizer to lawns for hire the state requires a license beginning Jan 1, 2014 according to Florida Senate Bill 494 . In order to apply for the license you must first obtain a Green Industries Best Management Practices certificate.
The next opportunity to complete the training is Tuesday, April 28, 2015. The class will be held from 8am-4pm. The cost is $20, which includes lunch. Please call 850-638-6180.
Pesticide Applicators can receive 4 CEUs from this class. They are 2 CORE and 2 from the categories of Ornamental & Turf, Limited Lawn & Ornamental, Limited Landscape Maintenance or Commercial L&O.
Educational Program Workshop
♦ This workshop is designed to provide training in Best Management Practices (BMPs) for anyone working in the lawn, landscape, pest control, or municipal grounds areas.
♦ The Best Management Practices are focused on reducing non-point source pollution resulting from fertilization or pesticide application.
♦ At the end of this training you will be given a post-test to determine knowledge learned. If the post-test is successfully completed, you will be mailed a Green Industries BMP certificate of completion.
♦ Some cities & counties require this certification before you can bid on jobs or have commercial customers.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
- 8:00-8:50am Introduction and Pre-test (50 minutes)
- 8:50-9:40 Overview – Green Industries BMPs for Protection of Water Resources (50 minutes)
History, Background & Overview of the BMP Program & Local Ordinances.
How to use the BMPs to protect water quality.
- 9:40-9:50 Break
- 9:50-11:10 Lawn and Landscape Cultural and Fertilization BMPs (80 minutes)
Best Management Practices for healthy lawns and landscapes. Includes mowing, pruning,
fertilization & irrigation effects on water quality; plant health; and ability to tolerate pest pressures.
- 11:10-11:20 Break
- 11:20-12:10 Irrigation BMPs (50 minutes)
Irrigation Best Management to conserve water; Practices to reduce disease & insect damage and water quality. Irrigation BMPs include: irrigation requirements, design, installation, and monitoring, troubleshooting and proper management of irrigation.
- 12:10-12:40pm Lunch (Provided)
- 12:40-1:30 Fertilizer BMPs (50 minutes)
Fertilizer sources: comparisons and responses; application; and safety
- 1:30-1:40 Break
- 1:40-2:30 Pesticide BMPs (50 minutes)
Licensing, environmental risk use of IPM in a management program; Pesticide selection, storage,
handling & disposal.
- 2:30-2:45 Review
- 2:45-3:30pm Post-Test, evaluation and CEUs.
