UF / IFAS of Jackson County will host this year’s annual Watermelon-Cucurbit Meeting on Monday, February 11. Registration will begin at 8:30 AM CST, with the program beginning at 9:00 AM. This workshop is for growers of any size.

Topics to be covered include: 

• Disease Control in Cucurbits
• Fertility Considerations for Cucurbit Crops
• Pesticide Handling Decisions
• Applying the Correct Amount
•  Agricultural Practices (GAP)
• Insect Management in Cucurbits
• Variety Update for Cucurbit Crops

Continue reading »]]> On August 23, the North Florida Research and Education Center in Marianna will host the 2012 Peanut Field Day.   Registration will commence at 8:00 AM (CDT).  If you are interested in learning about the latest disease resistant varieties or the newest solutions to weed control problems, this is the place to be. The event will conclude with a delicious sponsored lunch of fried catfish. Field tours will begin at 8:30 AM  with topics including disease and nematode control, new varieties, crop rotation, and weed control. Attendees will have the opportunity to see the results of in field research trials first hand. Core CEUs will be available at registration. Please take some time out of your busy schedule and enjoy the latest peanut production information while meeting with IFAS extension agents and production research specialists.

Continue reading »]]> Need CEUs? An opportunity for licensed pesticide applicators to earn CEUs will be held August 21, 2012 from 8:30 to 4:00 EST. The event will be held at the UF/IFAS North Florida Research and Education Center in Quincy, FL. An applicator can attend any or all of the six sessions for pesticide licensing rectification credit.

A total of 6 FDACS-approved CEUs are available for the entire day in the following categories:

From the first four and six row cotton picker demonstrations and self propelled peanut combines to the introduction of the cotton industry’s first commercially available picker equipped with a built-in on board module builder, to breakthrough research on new crop varieties, the Sunbelt Expo has always been the place for visitors to see the newest in agriculture.

The 2012 Sunbelt Expo will take place October 16-18 in Moultrie, Georgia. The event attracts upwards of 100,000 visitors from all over the country. Visitors come for three days to peruse 4,000 product lines from 1200 commercial exhibitors, and capitalize on educational opportunities from university and college research specialists.
